Court Registry

A Court registry is the first point of contact between the Court and litigants/public where all pleadings, supporting documents, orders and decisions of the Court are maintained. Court registries are present in all High Court Station/Divisions/ Sub-Registries.

Services in a Registry may either be rendered virtually and/or physically. The registry plays a vital role in supporting the judicial process, acting as the backbone of our Court system.

  • Functions of the Registry:
    Management of cases from registration to disposition
    Receipt transmission and custody of  court documents

The Registrar High Court oversees the overall administration and day to day management and setting up of High Court registries. The Registrar is assisted and supported by the Deputy Registrars who manage the registries at the High Court Station/Divisions/ Sub-Registries.

The High Court (Organization and Administration) Act provides that a High Court station shall consist of the Presiding Judge, Number of Judges that the Chief Justice in consultation with the Principal Judge determine, a Deputy Registrar and staff.

This registry handles matters in relation to the alleged denial, violation, infringement or threat of infringement of the bill of rights or fundamental freedoms under the provision of the Constitution.

Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Registry

The registry has original jurisdiction on certain matters but also handles appeals from the anti-corruption cases presided over by special magistrates. The ACECD hears petitions and judicial review applications on claims of infringement, civil suits involving recovery of assets acquired through proceeds of corruption and economic crimes and all proceedings which magistrates' anti-corruption court has no jurisdiction. In addition, it hears all criminal reviews, revisions, appeals, and any other applications arising from decisions of the special magistrates appointed under section 3 of the Anti-corruption and Economics Crimes Act 2003.
