The registry handle civil disputes that are commercial in nature cases include; winding up company, insolvency issues, recovery of unsecured debts including claims against guarantors, stoppage of the realization of securities, Arbitration other than enforcement of the awards, intellectual property disputes and appeals related to commercial disputes from the Magistrates and Small Claims Court

The registry has original jurisdiction on certain matters but also handles appeals from the anti-corruption cases presided over by special magistrates. The ACECD hears petitions and judicial review applications on claims of infringement, civil suits involving recovery of assets acquired through proceeds of corruption and economic crimes and all proceedings which magistrates' anti-corruption court has no jurisdiction. In addition, it hears all criminal reviews, revisions, appeals, and any other applications arising from decisions of the special magistrates appointed under section 3 of the Anti-corruption and Economics Crimes Act 2003.
